Microsoft recently released a minor update for internet explorer 7 that will allow users to install it without the installer requiring windows to be genuine. This way users won’t have to activate it trough Windows Genuine Advantage and they can upgrade their “old”IE 6 to the most recent version or Internet explorer.

Internet Explorer 7 was released almost one year ago, but it still didn’t pass its predecesso(ie 6) which is still the most used browser. Microsoft is aiming for more users to upgrade ie 6 so this way more and more users would get protected. Although ie 6 still gets security updates trough windows update, it doesn’t provide the protection that IE7 provides. Internet explorer 7 includes an anti-pishing filter that protects users at a rate of 900.000/week. It also contains an extended SSL validation filter to help prevent frauds.

You can choose to download the upgrade from Betanews or wait till its downloaded trough windows update.

Hmm…most probably Microsoft took this decision  now that it announced that Windows XP will be discontinued starting from june 2008, and in my opinion they took the decision to make ie7 work on pirated(ahem…i wanted to say unverified) version of Windows xp so they can catch up with Firefox.

Lets hope many people will take advantage of this and will upgrade their “old” IE 6 to IE 7 and they will spare us(web developers & designers) from headackes when it comes to coding and making a website look good and not distorted on all browsers
